Our Teaching Philosophy
At NBCC we follow strict guidelines when planning our curriculum. Our guidelines state that we must show how the daily implemented curriculum meets the Ohio Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS). To do this, we have created a Lesson Plan to align with the ELDS and our child assessment system. Our child assessment system includes both Child Progress & Goal Sheets.
Our Lesson Plans are divided into 5 sections or areas of development which are aligned with that of the Ohio ELDS. Our teaching staff are trained to implement activities that are based on the interests of the children in each classroom. The teachers observe the children, noting each childs interests and developmental progress, then use that information to create lesson plans which allows for more real and meaningful knowledge of a subject area.
Our Five Areas of Development
Cognition & General Knowledge
Through cognitive learning your child will focus on information recall, problem solving strategies, reasoning and anticipation skills to help guide the child’s mental abilities.
& Motor Skills
Large and small muscle movements, balance, reach, coordination, and oral & sensory motor skills all help demonstrate basic skills and understanding of physical health practices.
Language & Literacy
We teach the foundation of basic listening and speaking skills by reading, by vocalizing and labeling pictures and objects, and by sharing observations, ideas and experiences with each other.
Social & Emotional Skills
Teaching a child a sense of self begins with awareness and expression of emotion. Our teachings then expand to a concept of self-regulation and competence, all the way to attachment to others and interactions with adults.
Approaches Towards Learning
For your child’s development, we focus on curiosity towards people and objects, while increasing attention and persistence. We're looking for the child's personal expression of ideas and feelings through the arts.
Our Wonderful Staff
Children are offered an environment that fosters growth in all areas of development - body, mind and spirit. Play is the method by which children explore their world, construct knowledge and grow. Here at NBCC, we know how to play!
A Variety of Programs
While daily schedules differ between programs and age levels, all rooms have exploration time, dramatic play, quiet centers for individual book exploration, art, and music areas. Our rooms are where learning happens as a natural consequence of being encouraged to explore life.
